Activity 3 (Haptic & Multimodal)

What is Haptic technology?

Haptic technology is any technology that interfaces users via experiences of forces such as vibration, motion and touch. Mechanical stimulation is used in the creation of objects, only existing in virtual or computer simulation. The tactile feedback that the technology gives a user a sense of feeling, something in response to an action.

Here are few types of a Haptic technology :
1. Medical.
2. Virtual reality.
3. Video gaming.
4. Art and design.

What is Multimodal technology?

Multimodal is a situation where user is provided with multiple modes for interacting with a system.
Multimodal interfaces try to combine two or more modes of communication to enhance user
interaction.

Multimodal interfaces involve user input such as:
1.Motion controller.
2.Tangibles.
3.Speech.
4. Body gestures.
5. Brain activity.
6. Head position.

There are several advantages of multimodal technology :
1. Improve error handling and efficiency.
2.Greater expressive power.
3.Provide user with multiple input of modalities.
4. Support for user's preferred interaction style.
5. Shorter and less complex linguistic construction.
6. Allows human to communicate naturally.
